With Android 4.3 (API Level 18) the support for Bluetooth Low Energy comes
built in the platform and also the multiple APIs have been made available which

characteristics.
When compared to Classic Bluetooth, Bluetooth Smart
considerably reduces the power consumption
and the maintenance cost while
maintaining a similar communication range. This allows Android apps to communicate with
BLE devices that have low power requirements, such as proximity sensors, heart
